The Vote Is In!

Women of Literatae,

Voting is finished and we have a new slate of books. Thanks to everyone who nominated books and voted!  We had two titles selected that had been nominated previously, and our respect and love for Margot showed through, as both her recommendations were selected.  As always, I'll add the Long List to the link at the top right of the website, so you can check out nominated titles that didn't make the short list. 

Be thinking about the order in which you want to read the books and which one you might be willing to review.  We need to create our upcoming calendar at our meeting on Tuesday. If you want to sign up to host or provide dessert ahead of time, here's the grid.  I'll print it out early Tuesday afternoon so we'll have it to refer to. Hope to see you then!

Thank you so much for getting your title recommendations in!  We wound up with 11 titles this cycle.  A respectable number.

The voting window may seem a bit short.  That's because I don't have Covid and I'm not recovering from surgery.  I've been gardening like a fool and doing a bit of running about, so you're getting this only the afternoon before my self-imposed deadline.  No extra days!

Here's what I've put together for you. Votes are due by online ballot by midnight on Friday, June 9 -- in one week. Fill in the Volunteer Grid as you see fit. If you have any problems with any of the links, please let me know so I can adjust settings.

The slide show of Fall 2023 Nominees is now available. See all the titles, book jackets, publisher summaries, comments from nominators, and Fayetteville Public Library, Washington County Library System, and Amazon availability.  They are divided into a Fiction and a Biography, Memoir, & Nonfiction section. In an attempt to present them objectively, I arranged them by author.

You may need to click the slideshow button in the upper right corner to view the presentation. Then use the enter key or click your mouse to step through the slides. If you want to return to an earlier slide, use the left arrow key to go back. The escape key will get you out of the presentation at any time.

Scratch Paper Ballot: If you're like me, you need to decide on paper before voting on an electronic ballot. Print this ballot for a list of titles in the same order as the slideshow. To fill out the online ballot, you will need to rank your six choices 1-6, with 1 being your top pick and 6 your bottom pick.

Online Ballot: Once you have decided on your six choices and ranked them 1-6, use this online ballot to vote. Remember that you will not rank titles other than the six you have selected. I've included ranking of the titles so that in the event of a tie, we will not have to have a run-off.  (For some reason, I'm getting a redirect notice when I test this.  If you get this: don't panic! Just click the forms link to access the ballot.  It did not do this when Steven tested it for me, so you probably won't encounter this.)

Nomination Time (Again!)

Women of Literatae, it's time to choose our next round of books. In order to have another title in the pipeline by the time we meet in June, we need to get started. I know it seems early, but this will move us back to having the new list in hand about a month before our list runs out. 

Step 1 - now through May 30:
Send your titles by email to sakroberson@gmail.com. Titles and authors, reviews if you've got 'em, your own personal comments. But just title & author is fine. I can pull reviews. Want to know if we’ve previously read a particular book? Click on the Literatae Reads by Author & Title at the top right of literatae.blogspot.com.

Ongoing: Rough list of submitted titles available on blog, so you can see what other titles have been submitted as you work on your own submissions.

Step 2 - by June 3:
Slide show with all titles submitted, scratch ballot, and Google form for voting will be posted.

Step 3 - by June 9:
Ponder your options & vote using the Google form.

Step 4 - Results posted by June 11, but grid up on June 3, if you want to volunteer before seeing the titles. I'll tally the votes and send out the results.

My part of this is easy, as long as you send titles by May 30. Please do. Thanks!
